To determine flight affordability, researchers for NetCredit , an online loans resource, calculated the number of work-hours needed — at the average local wage, per the Bureau of Labor — to cover airfare in each state. 3

Hawaii, where the typical price of plane ticket is $287.79, and New Jersey, offering mile-high trips at a median of $308.70, landed in first and second place as the nation’s least expensive flight hotspots, respectively.

It’s high praise based on how much each state’s residents are getting paid.
