FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) - A fake kidnapping plot to deceive a loved one out of $100 led to a man facing numerous charges.

Patrick Edsall, 37, told a 71-year-old family member that he had been kidnapped at gunpoint on July 30, according to Butler County court records.

Edsall claimed his kidnapper was demanding $200 for his “ransom,” the court records explain.

The family member sent Edsall $100.

Edsall later admitted that he wanted the money to buy drugs, according to the court records from Butler County.

At the time Edsall was “kidnapped,” court records say he left his 7-year-old child at home alone.

The 37-year-old is now facing charges of endangering children, theft from a protected class, and inducing panic, court records show.
