BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. — On September 24, the Baxter County Sheriff's Office arrested two suspects in connection with ongoing investigations into fraudulent scams.
Law enforcement made the arrest after setting up a controlled delivery on September 22 involving $250,000 to draw out the suspects.
Undercover arrangements made contact with a known scammer who was impersonating Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery via phone. The scammer instructed them to send $250,000 in cash to Mountain Home via FedEx under the pretense of safeguarding the victim's money.
When the FedEx package arrived at the post office, a male subject who identified himself as "Steve Rogers" claimed the package.
He was detained and identified as 25-year-old Josiah Kamal Smith of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Smith stated he was re
