Deaths of two people found after house fire investigated as suspicious

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Two people who died in a house fire in Tompkins Township have been identified as Michael Reginald McGehe, 46, and Sherry Lynn Porter, 44.

The cause of the fire and death are still under investigation, Michigan State Police First Lt. Rene Gonzalez said. Police are investigating the deaths as suspicious and are reviewing text messages, phone records and other details before making further conclusions, he said.

Fire and rescue crews were called Wednesday, Sept. 17, to the home in the 6800 block of Maple Lane Road for the structure fire.

After firefighters brought the fire under control, they entered the home and found McGehe and Porter dead, authorities earlier said.
