A Texas police department is professing it made a mistake after cops drove a domestic violence suspect back to the scene of the crime — the same place where he later allegedly stabbed his estranged wife to death.

Frederick Spears, 55, stands accused of murder in the death of his wife, 53-year-old Mary Spears, in Arlington, cops wrote in a press release . The two were estranged after several years of marriage, but she had been allowing him to stay at the home.

After a domestic violence arrest on Monday, Frederick Spears was barred from the home and from contacting family members — yet cops drove him back there anyway.

The agency admitted it erred.
