A driver from Colonial Heights died Wednesday after a tire on his pickup truck blew out and led to a crash.

Virginia State Police said Jacob Scott Southers, 54, was driving a 2008 Ford F-350 south on Interstate 295 in Henrico County when the tire blowout happened. Police said the truck lost control, ran off the road, overturned, went over a guardrail and landed on train tracks below the highway.

Police responded to the crash at about 1:40 p.m. near the 26-mile marker, about a tenth of a mile south of Portugee Road.

Police said the crash is still being investigated. Images state police released from the scene showed one of the truck's axles had been dislodged in the crash.
