Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud addressed the accusation of being a "nepo kid" that has been at times thrown at him on Thursday, saying that he had wanted to walk away when he was offered the role of a high court judge in 1997. Challenging the idea of "product of nepotism", Chandrachud said people need to be judged by their quality of work.

Speaking at the India Today Mumbai Conclave 2025, Chandrachud tackled the perception that his ascent in the judiciary was influenced by familial connections, emphasising that the quality of one's work should be the true measure of their merit.
