CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Things are about to get smelly at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Botanical Gardens as Cadavera the corpse flower prepares to bloom.
Garden staff took to Facebook on Sept. 24 to say the flower would be blooming within the next week, most likely between Sunday and Tuesday. Although the gardens usually close at dusk, garden staff said they would remain open until midnight on the night of Cadavera’s bloom.
Titan Arums, commonly known as corpse flowers, are giant flowers native to Sumatran jungles. The plants live about 40 years in the wild, where they take 10 to 15 years to bloom for the first time. Afterward, they bloom every three to five years.
