Marist Catholic volleyball player Kimberly Spurlock is the winner of the Eugene-Springfield area high school girls Athlete of the Week, as voted by Register-Guard readers.

A junior outside hitter, Spurlock racked up 11 kills, five digs and an ace Sept. 16 to help the Class 4A No. 2 Spartans to a 25-21, 25-13, 25-20 win over No. 1 Cascade.

Spurlock received 49.55% of the reader poll votes. South Eugene soccer player Hope Miller was second (40.51%).

Madeline Brewster, North Eugene soccer

North Eugene senior defender Madeline Brewster helped the Highlanders keep a pair of clean sheets in wins at Sprague (Sept. 16) and at Canby (Sept. 18). During the Canby win, Brewster scored a goal from the left back position.
