Border Patrol encounters in Arizona jumped 61% from July to August 2025 but remain at some of the lowest levels in decades.
The increase in Arizona reflects a recent rise in Border Patrol encounters along the entire southern border with Mexico, according to the latest U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.
In the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector, which covers the majority of Arizona’s border with Mexico, Border Patrol encounters jumped 59%, from 671 encounters in July to 1,068 in August.
In the Yuma sector, which covers 126 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, including a small section in California, encounters increased nearly 75% from 111 in July to 194 in August, U.S. Customs and Border Protection data shows.
