FREMONT, Calif. (Gray News) – A man in California is accused of stabbing another man to death because he was a registered sex offender.

The Fremont Police Department said its officers received a 911 call on Sept. 18 for a violent fight between two people in the 600 block of Upper Vinters Circle.

Responding officers found a 71-year-old man unresponsive on the ground, suffering from “significant” stab wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, 29-year-old Varun Suresh, was found standing outside the home. He was arrested at the scene, and police recovered the knife.

Police said investigators found that Suresh “specifically targeted the victim” because of the victim’s previous offenses.
