TOMPKINS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX) - The Michigan State Police are calling a house fire that killed two people in Jackson County ‘suspicious’ as the investigation continues.

The fire broke out on Wednesday, September 17, in the 6800 block of Maple Lane Road. A 46-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were found dead at the scene.

News 10 spoke with individuals who identified themselves as family members of the 44-year-old woman. They said police informed them the case is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide, although law enforcement has not officially confirmed that detail.

Neighbors told the family they heard what sounded like gunshots on two separate occasions just before the home went up in flames.
