WASHINGTON — Oklahoma’s state schools superintendent, Ryan Walters , who has advocated for Trump-branded Bibles in the classroom , is stepping down to helm a conservative advocacy group.
Walters, 40, who became the Sooner State’s superintendent of public instruction in January 2023, is taking over as CEO of the Teacher Freedom Alliance, a group that works to offer educators alternatives to unionization.
“We’re going to destroy the teachers unions,” Walters declared in an interview on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime” Wednesday night. “We have seen the teachers unions use money and power to corrupt our schools, to undermine our schools.”
The former high school history teacher drew national attention last year for his crusade to mandate religious instruction in public schools.
