The Regal Cinema in Akron's Chapel Hill area appears to be dimming its lights permanently.

An employee who declined to be named confirmed the cineplex, known as Regal Independence at 1210 Independence Ave., said the theater is concluding its operations after all scheduled Sept. 25 showtimes are completed.

A frequent moviegoer who visited Sept. 25 told the Beacon Journal he was informed by staff that the theater was closing Sept. 26. The company's website has blacked out all future scheduled movie times at the location.

No reason was provided for the closing.

The Beacon Journal reached out to Regal Cinema's management, but did not receive an immediate response.
