The first week of the Ontario Hockey League season often feels like a second pre-season.

With NHL camps in full swing, virtually every club is missing their top talent, leaving younger players to audition in bigger roles.

The caveat, of course, is that there’s valuable points on the line.

That’s why the Soo Greyhounds will gladly welcome back leading scorer Marco Mignosa this week after splitting their first weekend of the season with a 1-1 record.

Reassigned by the Tampa Bay Lightning, the overage forward is set to make his season debut Thursday against the Peterborough Petes, the first of six straight on the road for the Hounds.

“I think on the ice and off the ice, it’ll be a big difference,” said Quinn McKenzie.
