BREMERTON – A vacant, 5-acre parcel off Sheridan Road has been unveiled as the target location for a planned homeless shelter, appearing to bring a now years-long pursuit for a permanent facility into the homestretch.
The quartet of nonprofits spearheading the hybrid shelter project publicly announced the location for the first time during a presentation to the city council Wednesday. That group includes the Bremerton Housing Authority, Kitsap Mental Health Services, Kitsap Community Resources and St. Vincent De Paul.
Jill Stanton, executive director of the Bremerton Housing Authority, told council members the group was meticulous about searching for a site and could close on the property by early November, if not sooner.
