I had only the briefest dalliance with dating apps. Hopping on there during a particularly tumultuous time in my life at some point back in the mid-2010s for at most a few weeks, even that was enough for me to feel an overwhelming sense of despair, distaste, and doom.

Going by the impression given to me by almost weekly Reddit threads on the subject matter now, it seems that things have only gotten worse, platforms and social media ruining dating and romance in similar ways to how they have poisoned everything else. Seeing it all makes me very grateful that I met my partner the old-fashioned way, in person, randomly, in a pub, and I feel sorry for the kids and younger people these days who can’t escape the spider’
