Odisha Advocate General (AG) Pitambar Acharya stirred debate on Thursday by stating that the long-standing Mahanadi river water dispute was a “fabricated controversy”. Addressing the media on the issue, Acharya alleged that the dispute was artificially created, not for justice but for political optics alone.

The AG further claimed that there had been previous attempts to engage high-cost lawyers without a concrete resolution plan.

However, with BJP forming a government in the State, Acharya noted that serious efforts have now begun to bring the matter to a just conclusion.
