The Cornell School District is the first public school district in Allegheny County to go solar, a move that is expected to save nearly $2.5 million over the next 30 years, the district announced this week.
The project, installed on the roof of the district’s K-12 building, will offset 100% of Cornell’s annual energy usage.
“Cornell School District is so proud to have turned what was once just an idea into reality, and to have demonstrated to our students that anything is possible,” Aaron Thomas, Cornell’s superintendent, said in a statement. “We look forward to saving significant money on our monthly energy bills, and to redirecting those savings to educating our students.”
