NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A total of 5 vehicles crashed on the highway in Northampton Thursday afternoon that resulted in a traffic back-up.

According to MA State Police, the multi-vehicle crash happened at around 12:30 p.m. at the 23.4 Mile Marker on I-91 South in Northampton.

“All lanes needed to be closed for a short time,” State Police told us.

This led to a backup of traffic on the highway.

We’re told Northampton EMS was called in and 2 people were transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.

“The operator and a passenger of one of the vehicles...,” explained State Police.

No word on their current conditions was released.

Guardrail along the highway was damaged as a result of the multi-vehicle crash, which prompted the MassDOT to respond as well.
