An electric scooter ’s lithium-ion battery exploded Tuesday inside a Ludlow home, sparking a fire that displaced four people, officials said.
The two-alarm fire broke out shortly before 4 p.m. at 56 Haviland St., the state’s department of fire services said in a statement.
Emergency responders encountered “heavy fire ” coming from several windows of the one-story, wood-framed residence, officials said.
Firefighters got the blaze under control within 15 minutes and the occupants escaped safely. The home sustained extensive fire and smoke damage, officials said.
Investigators determined the fire was accidental and caused by the scooter’s battery explosion in the kitchen, officials said.
