Pompey, N.Y. - A candlelight vigil is planned in October in Pompey to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk who was assassinated earlier this month.

The vigil is scheduled to take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 at Heritage Hill Brewhouse at 3149 Sweet Rd.

Congress recently passed a resolution making Oct. 14 a “National Day of Remembrance” for Kirk. The date would have been Kirk’s birthday.

The vigil in Pompey will feature tribute videos, a variety of speakers and prayer, said Madilyn Steere, who is an organizer of the event along with Christian Ketchum-York and Mikayla Oleson.

Steere said that she wanted to bring the community together and provide an outlet as there were no other Kirk vigils in the area.
