MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) - Authorities say a Wisconsin man arrested following a traffic stop in 2024 for illegally possessing a firearm has learned his fate after officially being sentenced.
According to a release from the United States Attorney's Office, Western District of Wisconsin, deputies with the Dunn County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle on December 20, 2024, for speeding.
After further investigation, a search of the vehicle was conducted, resulting in deputies finding a bag in the backseat with a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun.
The driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Demetrius Howard from Menomonie, reportedly told officials that he would have fled from the scene had his child not been in the vehicle, since fleeing could have led to a potential "shootout."
