I’ve always been fascinated with maps. Once I started hiking and off-roading, that fascination grew into a real obsession. I love tracing washes and canyons, wondering where they might lead. Living so close to Lake Mohave, I set myself a goal: find a hiking trail that would take me all the way down to the lake.

Studying Google Earth one night, I spotted something — an old stone house near Telephone Cove, Nevada. From there, a wash seemed to cut its way down to a secluded spot on the water. Our friends and I call it “Norm’s Cove,” though its proper name is Rock House Cove. I knew I had to check it out. ×
