FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A historic district in Fort Wayne recently received special recognition.

The Pennsylvania Produce Terminal Historic District, in the East Central Neighborhood, was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The historic district was built from a single design by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1929 as four large fresh produce warehouses combined in one unit. One earlier warehouse was also built in 1925, likely anticipating the future project.

The compact group of commercial warehouses in the 400 block of East Brackenridge Street is the second site in the East Central Neighborhood to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It joins the Turner Chapel AME Church on 836 East Jefferson Boulevard.
