FALMOUTH, Mass. —
Charges have been dropped against an 18-year-old Cape Cod man accused of threatening to commit a school shooting, but the investigation is ongoing, prosecutors said.
Last week, Ian Fotheringham was charged with preparing to commit a school shooting. Police arrested him at his home, where they say they found a 3D printer capable of making a gun. No weapons were found at the home.
Investigators said Fotheringham also had graphic photos of the Columbine High School shooting. While no specific Falmouth school was named as a target, police said Fotheringham went to Teaticket Elementary School during a recess period.
But on Thursday, Cape and Islands Assistant District Attorney Thomas Flanagan said the charges were being dropped after a discrepancy.
