CLINTON, Iowa. (KWQC) - Beginning in October the Clinton Humane Society will no longer be accepting stray animals from within city limits.

The change begins Oct. 1 as the Humane Society said their three-year contract with the City of Clinton ends on Sept. 30. The shelter said they’re still in negotiations regarding a new contract.

“This is an unfortunate situation and a decision that the board did not take lightly,” officials with the Humane Society said. “In the last three years we have taken 2,571 animals into the shelter. Over 300 of those are from hoarding situations. Hoarding cases have become an astronomical expense for us and the city.
