IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - The former Iowa woman charged with First Degree Murder in the death of a newborn baby boy found in the Iowa City Landfill nearly years ago, is now booked in the Johnson County Jail.

Jail records show 58-year-old Cindy Sue Elder was booked at around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Elder was arrested in early September in Christian County, Missouri where she had been held until her extradition back to Iowa.

Iowa City Police say on December 21, 1992, the body of a baby boy was found at the landfill. The investigation picked up in October 2020 thanks to advances in DNA testing.

Investigators determined Elder, formerly known as Cindy Sue Eckrich, was the mother of the baby. Elder was 26 years old when the birth and death happened.
