A 911 outage is impacting much of Louisiana and Mississippi following a "major fiber cut" within the communications system, officials in New Orleans said Thursday. The fiber cut was reported in Mississippi and has "resulted in a 911 outage over most of Louisiana and Mississippi," according to Orleans Parish Communication District Executive Director Karl Fasold. "There's no indication it was malicious," Fasold said during a press briefing Thursday afternoon.
