ST. LOUIS — A city judge on Thursday ordered the former boss of the area carpenter's union to sit for a deposition after lawyers for the union spent half a year trying to get him to answer questions in a lawsuit against him.
St. Louis Circuit Judge Joseph Whyte ordered Al Bond, who national union leaders ousted as head of the former St. Louis-Kansas City Carpenters Regional Council, to answer deposition questions Oct. 8.
The St. Louis branch of the union, with 22,000 members, had been among the most influential labor organizations in the state. Bond was known for extending loans from the union to developers and financially backing St. Louis politicians and big regional initiatives, such as the failed efforts to privatize the city's airport and combine regional governments.
