KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Seven years after a car crash turned into a deadly homicide, Kansas City, Kan. police announce a man is charged in the crime.

The Wyandotte County District Attorney charged Lavont Ahzai Carter, 24, with first-degree felony murder in the death of KC Gillespie.

Investigators found Gillespie’s body in a crashed SUV on March 11, 2018. The SUV hit a tree in a parking lot of the Forest Glen Estates Apartments near N. 65th St. and I-70.

When police looked closer, they determined someone shot Gillespie.

Gillespie lived in Edwardsville. In the months following his death Gillespie’s mother said she had no idea why he was at the complex.
