GRAND HAVEN, Mich —

On Sept. 23, sixth grader Elliott Blair was hit by a car going northbound on US-31 at the Taylor Avenue intersection in Grand Haven. Now released from the hospital, his family is hoping to make a change so others aren’t hit.

Elliott walks across the intersection every day after school to meet up with his mom, Ashley Breeman. Breeman says she was with a patient when she got several calls.

“I had gotten a call from [Elliott’s stepdad, Matthew Gibbs], and he had said that he's like, ‘do you know what's going on with Elliot? He was in an accident,' and then I immediately left work, and he was 30 seconds away from where I was,” Breeman said.

Breeman said getting to the scene was very scary.
