ATLANTA — A century-old apartment building rehab may help deliver a needed jolt to a downtown community.
The four story brick building off Edgewood Avenue is an old shoe factory that became an unlikely apartment building -- now seen as a rare success story in getting people without homes into stable places to live long-term.
"It’ll be a total makeover," said Leonard Adams, a co-developer of the project.
It will temporarily close the building, relocating its residents. But when it’s finished in a year, there are hopes that its rebirth will help jolt the community surrounding it.
"I really do believe we are in the process of stabilizing. The city is at the table. We have a task force tackling public safety. And this is only adding to the momentum and the improvements," said Liliana Bak
