AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)- Richmond County school leaders are taking more steps to improve school safety.
They’ve already installed metal detectors at 4 high schools in the county, but now they want to bring those devices to all high schools in the school system inside the next two months.
Within the last few weeks, two guns were found and confiscated at Laney High School and ARC.
School leaders have been talking about bringing metal detectors to all high schools before these incidents happened, but they say it’s now motivating them to make it happen sooner.
While a metal detector notified administrators of a gun at Laney, a gun was only found at ARC because of diligent work by administrators responding to reports.
