UBC Thunderbirds coach Blake Nill is skeptical about whether the lower levels of football in this country will be able to follow suit with the CFL rule changes.

The CFL announced Monday that it was revamping the game starting in 2026. Over two seasons, it plans to shorten the field by 10 yards, move the goalposts from the front of the end zone to the back and amend the rouge rule, among other things.

“What I know about universities and the budgets, I think there are a lot more priorities at every university in Canada right now than changing the football field to meet with what the CFL sees as their vision of how the game should be played,” said Nill, who’s been at the helm of the T-Birds since 2015, following stints guiding the Saint Mary’s Huskies (1998-2005) and Calgary Dinos (2006-201
