CINCINNATI -- A spectacular performance by Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo on Thursday's 2-1 win vs. the Pirates was prematurely ended by an apparent injury.
Lodolo tied a career high with 12 strikeouts by getting Andrew McCutchen to whiff on a curveball to open the seventh inning. He then threw a first-pitch curveball to the next batter, Tommy Pham before catcher Jose Trevino called time and asked for the trainer to visit the mound.
Manager Terry Francona decided to go to the bullpen and summon Graham Ashcraft to take over with a 2-0 lead, which they were able to hold on to with the help of Noelvi Marte robbing a potential game-tying home run by Bryan Reynolds in the ninth.
The Reds announced Lodolo exited with a right groin injury. The move was a precautionary one.
