SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The All-American 2025 Class of Astronaut candidates were recently named, and Gulfstream’s Director of Flight Test Engineering, Katherine Spies, was one of 10 selected.

NASA announced that out of 8,000 applicants they selected the next class to complete a multiple year training with the goal to be eligible for flight assignments.

Spies is a 43-year-old native of San Diego but has resided here in Savannah while working at Gulfstream.

Spies has a bachelors degree in Chemical engineering from the University of Southern California and masters in design engineering from Harvard University.

She is also a former Marines Corps AH-1 attack helicopter pilot and experimental test pilot.

The 24th astronaut class reported for duty in mid September to begin training.
