Two men and two hunting dogs died after an apparent lightning strike near Rucks Dairy Road in southeast Highlands County.

According to the Highlands County Sheriff's Office , deputies were called to the area at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers.

The sheriff's office said FWC officials had been searching for the men who went hunting and didn't return. Their car was found parked in the area.

Their bodies were found on the levee next to Canal C-41A, according to HCSO.

The two men were 38 and 31 years old, and both were from the Miami area. Deputies said the initial investigation indicated that they died from a lightning strike on Monday evening.
