ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Two U.S. Representatives visited Rockford today, touring local businesses to highlight economic initiatives.

Republican Darin LaHood visited Forest City Gear, a family-owned business that manufactures custom parts for industries ranging from aerospace to dental appliances. Meanwhile, Democrat Eric Sorensen visited Think Big, an incubator helping minority-owned businesses get off the ground.

"We need the private sector to be flourishing," said Rep. Darin LaHood, emphasizing the importance of family-owned businesses like Forest City Gear in local economies.

"Minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses, veteran-owned businesses, still have a tougher time in the very beginning," said Rep. Eric Sorensen, highlighting the role of Think Big in leveling the playing
