BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Burlington’s ongoing graffiti problem is spurring new art across the Queen City in an attempt to cover it up. WCAX viewer Caroline asked why graffiti is so prevalent downtown and why removal on private property isn’t being enforced. Reporter Ike Bendavid went looking for answers.
For years, the Richard Kemp Center in Burlington’s Old North End has been covered with graffiti.
“It just kind of hurts that someone thinks it’s a good idea to just basically vandalize a building that is here for the community,” said Christine Hughes, the center’s director.
The center predominantly serves the area’s Black community, and in an effort to be a more positive presence, they are working to cover the nuisance graffiti with a different kind of art.
