A man who opened fire on a pickup killing a Blackfalds man near Eckville in 2022 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Dustin Lemay-Storms, 37, was sentenced in Edmonton Court of King's Bench on Monday. He was found guilty of manslaughter with a firearm in February following a three-week trial.

Lemay-Storms was originally charged with second-degree murder for shooting and killing Stephen Pond, 46, on a rural road just south of Eckville around 4 a.m. on June 20, 2022.

Justice Wayne Renke said there was not enough evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Lemay-Storms intentionally meant to kill Pond, when he fired six shots at the pickup Pond was driving on on a rural road with his wife by his side. One of the bullets hit Pond in the head, fatally wounding him.
