GiILES COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - It’s been a year since Hurricane Helene made its way through Southwest Virginia.

Thousands of people in our hometowns were devastated by the natural disaster.

Thursday, we checked in with Giles County to see how far it’s come in the recovery process.

Nearly 50 families in Giles County were displaced following Hurricane Helene.

However, officials say those families have since found temporary housing, and the county is working to help get them back on track.

“We are planning to take some of this disaster money that’s being made available to us now and secure some long-term housing for those individuals. So that’s our first priority,” said Giles County Emergency Services Coordinator Jon Butler.
