The most famous section of southern Oregon's Rogue River will close because of increased wildfire activity from the Moon Complex , federal officials said on Sept. 25.

All recreational use of the river's "wild section" between Grave Creek and Foster Bar will be prohibited until conditions improve, the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management announced.

No permits will be issued for a section of river that people travel from around the world to fish, raft and hike.

"There is now active fire behavior on both sides of the river and predicted significant weather events," a news release said. "This emergency closure is being enacted for firefighter and public safety."
