A bat tested positive for rabies in Mecklenburg County, the eighth confirmed case of the year.

The bat was found near Choate Circle in the 28273 zip code. There was no human exposure and one dog exposure, Animal Care & Control said.

A rabies alert will be issued in the area Thursday night.

This is the eighth confirmed case in Mecklenburg County in 2025. Five bats and three raccoons have tested positive.

Raccoons (3): 28227, 28105, 28211

Bats (5): 28266, 28105, 28273
