AUGUSTA, Ga. - Fall may mean colorful leaves, hay rides and pumpkin spice.

But it’s also the time when flu starts spreading – and health officials say now is the time to start protecting yourself and loved ones.

Dr. Sarah Nosal, president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians, said: “We’re expecting this year to be moderate, but last year was severe. We had more illnesses, more hospitalizations, and more preventable deaths of children.”

She says the best protection is to get the flu shot as soon as it’s available to you – before the season gets into full swing.

Health professionals recommend you get your shot sooner rather than later.
