Citing a discrepancy discovered during the investigation, prosecutors have dropped a charge against a teenager who'd been accused of planning a shooting at a Cape Cod school.

The Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office didn't say in a statement Thursday what the discrepancy was or why it led them to enter a nolle prosequi filing, which indicates prosecutors are abandoning a charge, in Barnstable District Court.

Prosecution was no longer possible, but the matter remains under investigation, prosecutors said. They no longer named the suspect in the threats against a Falmouth school.
