Niagara-bound QEW traffic remains backed up over 12 hours after a vehicle fire closed lanes Thursday morning.
All lanes were closed ahead of the early-morning commute after a tractor-trailer went up in flames.
Emergency crews closed the highway just before Nikola Tesla Boulevard and Woodward Avenue, Ontario Provincial Police said around 6:30 a.m.
About an hour later, OPP reported that traffic was moving through on the left shoulder, and by 8:20 a.m., two left lanes had reopened.
OPP also said on X “extensive cleanup is required to remove the truck” and to expect lane closures in the area throughout the day.
Work continued on the highway at 6:30 p.m. with police advising drivers to plan an alternate route.
