HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A Huntsville Police sergeant was indicted and arrested, according to the department.

Jail records show Timothy Richards is charged with criminal use of defensive spray by a police officer. He was booked into the Madison County Jail shortly after 3:30 p.m. and was released on a $10,000 bond at 4:13 p.m.

HPD confirmed Richards is a sergeant and said he has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.
