Locals joined communities across the province Thursday morning to celebrate Franco-Ontarian Day, this year marking the 50th anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag.

Before the green-and-white banner was raised over the Brockville Railway Tunnel, local MP Michael Barrett, MPP Steve Clark and Brockville Mayor Matt Wren all made much-appreciated efforts to speak in what was not their native tongue. Wren noted his participation in last-year’s flag-raising event inspired him to learn French.
