GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- A well-known name in the Triad's sports community is turning to the community for help.

Chris Calwell, who played football at Dudley High School and was also part of the 1999 North Carolina A&T State University championship team, needs a new kidney.

From an early age, Chris was always active.

When he got the news that he needed a new kidney, he had to take a step back.

“I still go to my daughter's practice ... I'm not as strong and energetic as I once was ... I used to be very loud and making sure they knew I was there. And now ... I don't think I have the energy to do that piece of it anymore,” Chris said.

In 2018, he went to the doctors for his physical, where he was diagnosed with high blood pressure, which was a bigger problem than he thought.
